I generated quite a bit of negative buzz last week when I riled up some of our readers with a provocative article regarding ad blocking . While most of the comments were reminiscent of the sort of flaming that killed usenet as a viable platform for discussion, there were a few reasonable readers with opposing viewpoints who took part, and some good arguments were made for both sides. Ad blocking certainly isn’t going anywhere. It isn’t limited to the Firefox web browser.

Rampant file sharing of music videos has badly affected musicians, who have recently formed a core group to stop this menace. This group now has about a hundred members, comprising some of the most well known names from the music industry. Famous musicians like Lily Allen, Annie Lennox and others recently debated on this issue in a meeting that continued for three hours. It was decided that as the earlier suggestion of blocking net access of defaulters had faced some stiff opposition, throttling bandwidth of defaulters could be tried.

Lily Allen has decided not to meet the press because of the criticism she has been facing due to the views she expressed in her blog regarding the initiatives that were required for stopping illegal downloading of music videos. This type of net piracy has been going on for a long time and the debate to stop it been quite acrimonious.

Jon Norwood asked: Laptops are traditionally powered by one of three different types of batteries.  These are Nickel Cadmium, Nickel Metal Hydride, and the now commonly used Lithium Ion.  Fujitsu is now releasing a laptop in Japan that runs on air.  Not really, but they are marketing it as such.  For every FMV Loox laptop sold in Japan Fujitsu will buy enough green wind energy credits to equal the amount of power the laptop is estimated to use over a four year period.  That’s a lot of green.

While search is the “front door to the internet” on the PC, the same cannot be said of mobile devices. Apps, bookmarks and other ways to access content have become at least as useful as the Google search box on a mobile device. While Google will laugh at anyone who publicly tries to suggest (as I have) that search may not turn out to play as central a role in mobile as it does on the desktop, Google’s actions suggest that they’re hedging their bets and may not think I’m entirely crazy.
