IMT-Advanced Submitted to ITU - dailywireless.org

3GPP Partners , an organization of more than 370 leading mobile technology companies, has made a formal submission to the ITU on October 7 , proposing their cellular-based LTE-Advanced system as a candidate for 4G standardization approval by the Internation Telecommunications Union. The 3GPP group overviews their cellular progress and their approach to 4G in, “ Framework and Overall Objectives of the Future Development of IMT-2000 and Systems beyond IMT-2000 ” ( pdf ).

“The New York Times” online edition today, the author says, for the third-largest U.S. carrier Sprint is concerned, the introduction of 4G technology to seize opportunities to regain market share in its best and final choice. First step Sprint has begun to promote themselves as “the first 4G wireless network” carriers, but the Dell INSPIRON 4000 Laptop Battery advertisement did not elaborate on the meaning of this sentence.

During the Nokia Siemens Networks Solutions Forum 2009 in Munich, myCOMAND was run for the first time on a 4G wireless high-speed LTE (Long Term Evolution) network. Driving the S-Class prototype on normal roads produced a shining outcome: all myCOMAND features prove smooth and enhanced performance, with high resolution and improved quality.

Bell Canada, the subsidiary of incumbent Canadian telecom carrier BCE Inc. ( BCE ), has reportedly accelerated the deployment process of its next-generation high-speed wireless network. The Canadian operator will begin commercial launch of the much anticipated 3G high speed packet access (“HSPA”) network in November, ahead of the originally scheduled launch in February 2010.     The 3G HSPA network represents an upgrade to Bell Canada’s existing CDMA based wireless network and is set to emerge as the largest HSPA network in Canada .

Sprint Nextel ( S ) has further expanded its fourth-generation (4G) wireless broadband network coverage to ten more U.S. markets. The third largest US carrier has officially launched commercial services in Salem (Oregon), Milledgeville (Georgia) and Texas cities of Amarillo , Killeen-Temple, Corpus Christi , Lubbock , Waco , Wichita Falls , Abilene and Midland-Odessa. This follows Sprint’s 4G service launches in Atlanta, Portland and Las Vegas in August 2009.

[Fcc] - rssfabriek.nl 10/07/2009 While disappointing carriers by reiterating the FCC is all about net neutrality, chairman Julius Genachowski also offered them some consolation: To get more 4G goodness in the air, the FCC’s going to a “shot clock” style rollout for cell towers. That means when a new cell tower site is proposed, there’s just a short period for a community to protest it—the idea being more towers going up even faster will help speed up the rollout of crazyfast 4G wireless.

In the past several weeks a few “top VoIP blogs” lists were posted elsewhere. I’ve decided it is time for me to come up with my own list, but of a different kind: instead of top VoIP blogs, I’d simply list the VoIP related blogs that I am actually reading - those that are “my eyes and ears” in the VoIP world. You can regard my list as my personal blogroll, only I am not using any “link exchange” program (never liked those).
