With the number of mobile web users increasing at such a great speed, it definitely makes good business sense for Internet service providers to start serving up ads on mobile phones, and that is exactly what Yahoo! has already started doing. Yahoo! has now started serving ads from the Yahoo! Search Marketing system on mobile phones . These ads are served on all smart phones including iPhones and Android mobile handsets.

While a recent survey by the consulting firm CFI Group found that iPhone users are the most loyal smartphone users, with 90 percent saying they’d recommend the device to a friend, half of all iPhone owners surveyed said they would like to jump ship to another provider if given the chance. And for the first time, AT&T has scored worse than all four major U.S. wireless operators in terms of overall customer satisfaction for smartphones. According to the survey, AT&T scored 69 out of 100 among users, and 73 among non-iPhone owners.

According to Steven Hartley, a senior Analyst at Telecoms and Software consultancy Ovum, the flat-rate pricing that is attracting more and more customers to mobile broadband services could actually result in lesser profits for providers in the long run. The observation has come in view of reduction in prices of mobile broadband brought about by the competition in market ( click for mobile broadband deals ) as well as the dwindling usage of netbooks and laptops that has defeated the marketing strategy of providing these as value added services to consumers.

A notebook computer, also named a laptop, is a small mobile computer. The term laptop computer was struck back in the 80’s, because they were so miniature that they could sit on your lap. All notebook computers open like a book to reveal a 12? to 20? screen and a keyboard at the base with a touchpad. This touchpad is also identified as a track pad which behaves as a mouse. A  notebook tablet computer hardware is physically smaller in size and usually less powerful than a desktop.
At Least The Lawn Is Mowed - insidetheperimeter.net

Time nearly slipped by me last night. Since it may rain tonight, and more importantly since I have other plans, I had to rush home and get the lawn mowed before darkness fell. With the days getting shorter this is harder for me than it sounds. It’s done, the edges certainly could use a good trimming and the yard a great general cleanup, but they can wait… Speaking of a good trimming, I’ve not been able to find time to get a much-needed haircut. ITP-Readers Lisa and Randy get ready to meet “Hippie Paulie” tomorrow.

For me, Africa is the content to watch for mobile innovation. Whilst there’s a lot moving in the Far East, I’m ever hopeful that the introduction of reliable and inexpensive communications facilities will really change things for the better. I received the following email from Mpine Tente. Mpine heads up the Retail and Customer Services department of Echonet Telecom , a mobile operator in the small African country of Lesotho . Mpine’s team, working together with ForgetMeNot Africa , have deployed two-way email (via SMS) facilities for their customers.
Four Weeks with my iPhone - moresportonteleplease.blogspot.com

Well I managed to get an iPhone four weeks ago after trying for about 8 weeks. I got it from the 3 Store at the bottom of the QVB Building near the entrance to Town Hall Station. So I’ve had four weeks with it like I say and I thought I’d jot down my impressions thus far. I like it is the shortened version, alot . Physically it’s a little big to hold but all the same it feels good in the hand- not too light, not too heavy.

The days of universal access to free news content on the web appear to be numbered, with more than two-thirds of major British publishers saying that they either will, or are planning to, charge people for access to their online content. Only 30 per cent of respondents who took part in the 2009 annual census by the Association of Online Publishers said they still had no plans to charge for content. This represents a significant shift in the last two years, as when the same question was asked in 2007, 54 per cent of respondents said they had “no plans to charge for content”.

New business models are now emerging, giving the industry the confidence to begin changing their more traditional models. An equally important factor is that this is backed up by a phenomenal growth in online advertising revenues – these are now well above $1.7 billion. Video-based service on broadband and interactive digital TV networks is becoming a whole new area of advertising opportunities. Personalised media and one-to-one communication will be the predominant mode on the Digital Media.

Australia - Digital Media - Advertising, Statistics, Revenues, Forecasts Expenditure on online advertisements in Australia reached $1.7 billion by the end of 2008. Given the difficult trading conditions facing the Australian economy BuddeComm predicts that the pace of growth may be adversely impacted going forward. However, the increased use of multimedia advertising as broadband availability improves may counter this trend as advertisers experiment with new formats.

Micro-payment utilising e-banking has been discussed for more than 25 years. Online e-payment via telephone billing systems was launched in the 1980s; at the same time smartcards were trialled for micro-payments. However the financial institutions have been more interested in protecting their incumbent businesses than in seriously embarking on e-payment developments. PayPal has established itself as the most advanced e-payment system outside the banks.

We’re a pretty tech-savvy population, early adopters of innovation. We don’t treat our handsets as a device any more – it’s a resource, a personal medium. For many, it’s our diary, our music store, it stores all of our secrets – basically, it’s our best friend! A growing number of advertisers are turning to mobile to supercharge traditional media by targeting campaigns to specific user groups, and adding a stronger response mechanism than they can achieve with any other medium.

Ethiopia is the last country in Africa allowing its national telco, ETC a monopoly on all telecom services including fixed, mobile, Internet and data communications. This monopolistic control has stifled innovation and retarded expansion. The government tries to encourage foreign investment in a broad range of industries by allowing foreigners up to 100% equity ownership. However, there is no official schedule for the privatisation of the national carrier and the introduction of competition, but once this happens, the potential to satisfy unmet demand in all service sectors is huge.

Despite its status as a least developed country and remaining one of the poorer countries in Southeast Asia, Cambodia’s efforts to expand and upgrade its telecom infrastructure are bearing fruit. There was very little infrastructure remaining from before the tumultuous Khmer Rouge days. As a result, Cambodia bypassed rebuilding the fixed-line market and quickly launched into alternative technologies, jump-starting its telecommunications infrastructure with digital technology.

Myanmar’s telecommunications sector continues to be dominated by the state-owned monopoly telephone service provider, Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications (MPT). With the government’s conservative approach to structural reform, it was not surprising that MPT continues to maintain its monopoly over the telecom sector, being the sole national telephone network operator. MPT drafted a 20-year master plan the period 1990 to 2010 and under this plan a range of different projects have been implemented over the years to improve the underdeveloped network.

Losing Your Phone in Japan - jamesinjapan.wordpress.com

Losing your phone always sucks. You lose your contacts, pictures and, most depressingly, money. Losing your mobile phone in Japan is doubly depressing: you are typically locked into a 2-year contract with few options and mobile phone insurance appears to be unheard of. I know this because I dropped my phone somewhere on my way home a few Fridays ago.My job contract obliges me to keep a mobile on my person at all times, mainly because if a train line shuts down due to an accident or if I forge about work, then they need to shout at me or arrange emergency cover.

I would say that roughly 90% of my work is published online and all my work must be submitted by electronic means. Such is the way for millions of other freelancers, businessmen, consultants and footloose operators the world over. The internet has revolutionized how we work by making us available almost all of the time. This comes with a fatal flaw; the internet can fail. Over the weekend, the modem provided by my ISP packed up. This is my first day being back to normal.

It’s been a busy time for us at CTIA this week with FCC filing deadlines, Hill activities, Distracted Driving Summit and of course, our International CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment show next week. But on Tuesday, we submitted a very important ex parte filing  to the FCC requesting more spectrum because, to put it simply, it is the backbone of our industry.  It’s not something that most people think about, but it’s what allows the wireless industry to create and develop the great things that you and I take for granted everyday. As Steve said in his statement about the filing, spectrum drives the innovation and competition.
