I use a N95 8GB, it’s not a good Intenet device but it’s capable to do a lot of thing with it. Recently, I just subscribed to the Monthly 500MB Mobile Internet Data plan from Maxis for RM58 a month to do my email, Twitter and some light surfing on the go. The good folks at Portugal Telecom have reported that they’re investing around $54 million to improve their telecommunications network in East Timor by the end of this year. Could Intel’s new Moblin 2.1 OS make a dent against Windows in the mobile and desktop markets? At this week’s Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, the chipmaker debuted a beta version of its Moblin 2.1 open-source operating system targeted to run on a variety of devices, including smartphones, Netbooks, nettops, Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs), and in-car systems. Moblin 2.1 will compete with other open-source operating systems like Google’s Android and bump up against Microsoft in the burgeoning nettop arena.

“On down days like today, you have to stick with your game plan,” Jim Cramer said on Thursday’s “Mad Money” TV show. On last Friday’s Game Plan, Cramer spelled out specific events that make either a bullish or bearish case for the stock market. One specific event would be if stocks such as General Mills Inc. (GIS), Bed Bath and Beyond (BBBY) and Paychex Inc. (PAYX), were hit with selling after they reported earnings, that would be a sign that time to get more defensive. Vodafone has launched its new suite of services – Vodafone 360 – which it says will give customers a “truly integrated mobile internet experience”.  Vodafone 360 will replace Vodafone Live! and will unite customer contacts with information from social networks and address books. It will work across a range of mobile phones – including those specially commissioned by Samsung – and synchs automatically with a PC.

At the Developer Forum keynote, Intel Company presented a new smartphone software of the company entitled Moblin Linux. The Moblin Linux variant 2.1 is redesigned as to enhance the quality of the finger-friendly interface input and also adds a new interface that enables users to switch the applications in a panel manner, just like the system used by the web operating system of the Palm. Moblin Linux 2.1 software still comprises some of the specifics which endowed its predecessor, the Moblin Linux 2.0, such as specific media player ability and a complete browser for the Internet.

Source: The Register Intel and Microsoft have announced a new port of Silverlight to Linux, specifically for the Intel-sponsored Moblin operating system running on Atom-powered devices such as netbooks. The port enables Intel to include Silverlight as a supported runtime in the Atom Developer Program , which will feed an iPhone-like App Store. Microsoft has already provided Intel with Silverlight source code and test suites. Intel will build an optimized Moblin version of Silverlight, which Microsoft will supply to OEMs.

Vodafone ( NYSE:VOD ) is puttingthe LiMo Foundations Linux-based operating system at the heart of its new social-networking centric mobile Internet portal , called 360, and plans to bring the phones and service to most of its global subsidaries this year and next. The big exception is Verizon Wireless ( NYSE:VZ , NYSE:VOD ), which tends to go its own way anyhow. But while VZW may not be participating in Vodafone’s global cloud applications extraveganza, it is still following its lead on the device.

Here’s a news item that surprised me to say the least. Interbrand recently released its list of the top 100 brands for 2009 and nearly 1/3rd of the brands in that list do not have their own mobile website. If your reaction to this news is ‘dude, what’s the big deal?’ – let me tell you something. According to statistics, the number of people who use smart phones (read iPhone, Blackberry, Android, etc) keeps increasing every year. In North America alone, nearly 26% of mobile users use the mobile web facility on their phone regularly.

Microsoft has announced plans to bring its Silverlight technology to Moblin Linux . This is the first time the company has mentioned anything about Silverlight running on any Linux distribution. Up until now the only way to access Silverlight content including web video and interactive web media on a Linux system was to use Moonlight , an open-source implementation of Silverlight developed by Novell and Microsoft. Moblin is an Linux Foundation project and is an open source Linux-based system for next generation devices, primarily those based on Intel Atom hardware.
