Tekelec (TKLC) shares are sharply higher today after the company got a push Friday afternoo n from Jim Cramer on Mad Money. He notes that the company is an infrastructure play on the mobile Internet, with a particular focus on text messaging and number portability technology. This is not the first time Cramer has been banging the table on Tekelec; he was loud about the stock back in May. Cramer said the stock could move as high as $27. TKLC today is up $1.05, or 6.5%, to $17.24.

The Cranfield School of Management has produced the report which blames children’s use of mobile phones and the internet for falling standards in pupils study, research and written communication skills. The study found that 90 per cent of students used the internet, which is double the percentage who did their research with books.

The merger of T-Mobile and Orange will create the biggest mobile service provider in the whole of the UK and will change the picture of mobile broadband. The merger, however, is not scheduled to happen soon and will take place only after a year and a half. Hence, until 2012 both the companies will retain their separate legal identities. The merger will be a partnership venture but its modalities are not clear yet, and it has not been made public as to which company will retain its identity in the new unit.
