PC World - Verizon tested out its LTE (Long Term Evolution) network this week in Boston and Seattle. LTE is a major step forward in the march toward entirely IP-based mobile communications and full 4G wireless. Once 4G speeds are generally available in major markets across the country it will transform expectations of what a mobile device is capable of and continue to blur the line between communications, entertainment, and productivity.

Image Courtesy: Tech163.comDell reportedly took the wraps off its China-only smartphone project early Monday in China with the launch of the Dell Mini3i, according to the Chinese blog Netease. I’m not sure how this device relates to earlier attempts by Dell to enter the smartphone market, but judging by the Mini3i’s specs, it’s not hard to see why U.S. carriers have so far been unimpressed with Dell’s mobile device efforts. Verizon tested out its LTE (Long Term Evolution) network this week in Boston and Seattle.

Verizon Wireless recently completed its first successful Long Term Evolution (LTE) fourth generation (4G) data call in Boston based on the 3GPP Release 8 standard; the company also announced today that it had earlier completed the first LTE 4G data call based on the 3GPP Release 8 standard in Seattle. The successful data calls involved streaming video, file uploads and downloads, and Web browsing.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — State parks aren’t just for hiking, camping and other recreation anymore. Increasingly, these lands are being used for oil and gas drilling as budget-strapped states seek new sources of revenue. As they allow more energy exploration in state parks — in some cases by reversing previous bans — lawmakers are being met with resistance from environmentalists and park officials . Quoting advocates of the bag fee, “That claim (that the fee will harm poor people) is utter rubbish.
