Found by n2592, Vodafone Deals Vodafone are doing a deal with the nokia 5800. 18 months at £35 with 10 months half price line rental, automatic no redemption neccessary. That works out to £25 a month. Then £90 quidco, works out too £20 a month and you get a last minute voucher for £50 with it. And it includes 600 mins unlimited texts and mobile internet. you could sell the £50 voucher aswell making it even cheaper.

Vodafone will be offering one week of free access to Facebook for its UK mobile broadband service users as part of the provider’s “Free Friday” promotion series. The free access to Facebook is the first in the series to last an entire week instead of just one day, and it marks the launch of Facebook text alerts for Vodafone UK users. Customers will be able to log in to their Facebook accounts on either their mobile phones or computers using Vodafone broadband service.

Vodafone UK announced in a press conference that its customers will now get access to Facebook for free through their mobile phones or PCs by using the Vodafone broadband service. This offer lasts a whole week, starting July 24. Vodafone UK has started with Free Mobile Internet in May, then went on to the daily 50p rate to browse mobile Internet, then continued with Free Music Friday in June, with Vodafone being the first carrier to launch DRM-free music. Free Facebook is the very first service to last a whole week.

More than half (56%) of Americans have accessed the Internet using wireless mobile devices such as smartphones and laptops, according to a new report from the Pew Internet & American Life Project. The most popular way people go online via wireless is with a laptop as 39 percent of Internet users have done this. Mobile users sent some 763,760 GB of data in June, up from 763,178 GB in May, while average traffic per subscriber slightly fell to 1.51 GB versus 1.52 GB in the previous month. T-Mobile’s share of mobile data subscribers stood at 49.01 percent at the end of June, while Pannon and Vodafone recorded market shares of 23.15 percent and 27.85 percent, respectively. Based on the volume of traffic, T-Mobile’s market share was 41.28 percent, Vodafone’s share equalled 35.27 percent and Pannon had 23.45 percent of the market.

Earlier this morning, AT&T announced that it had activated 2.4 million new iPhones during the second quarter ending June 30, 2009 – its best ever since it exclusively started Apple’s hot new device two years ago. Thanks to the brand new iPhone 3G S and lower $99 iPhone 3G, the company is continuing to print money off its partnership with Apple. As I had pointed out earlier , AT&T makes roughly $95 a month from a customer who owns an iPhone versus about $59 from an average non iPhone customer, so it is in company’s best interest to get more of its users to upgrade.

Samsung’s Mondi may be tricky to find for retail right now, but an early unit has dropped over at PC World for them to try out . Taking advantage of Clearwire’s CLEAR WiMAX network, the Mondi MID has a slide-out keyboard, 4.3-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen and runs Windows Mobile 6.1; unfortunately, reviewer Ginny Mies found that while the screen is “gorgeous” the keyboard is too flush to be comfortable and the OS does its usual job of making things sluggish.

Our quick impression from a full day and a half spent inside the Clearwire bubble , at the company’s “official” market-launching event in Las Vegas on July 21: The nascent national WiMAX-providing company seems well past its sometimes-confusing stumbles of 2008 and into full execution mode, showing it can put on a confident, coherent local event even as its overall marketing, pricing and demographic messages remain somewhat a work in progress.

Defense Play RPX, a defensive patent aggregator, has raised an undisclosed amount of Series B funding led by Index Ventures with Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Charles River Ventures participating. The company also raised an undisclosed Series A round of funding in September 2008 from Kleiner Perkins and and Charles River Ventures. RPX first launched in November 2008 as a way to help companies defend themselves specifically against patent trolls (organizations that buy up patent portfolios with the express intention of forcing other companies to license those patents or face a lawsuit).

The LG Shine is the latest addition to the reputed Black Label series. Following up a highly successful model is always hard. Especially after the overwhelming success enjoyed by LG Chocolate – another member of the Black Label series. Regulatory authorities in the United States are taking a closer look at anti-competitive business practices. Mobile operators now find themselves being scrutinized for practices involving exclusivity arrangements signed with phone manufacturers. Also coming under examination are roaming and interconnection arrangements for data services. Operators like AT&T and Verizon own considerable segments of land-line networks and it is widely felt that this creates a conflict-of-interest, delaying the wider rollout of mobile Internet services.

AT&T* and Jasper Wireless announced today the commercial availability of a combined platform to connect and support a variety of emerging consumer electronic and business devices on AT&T’s nationwide wireless network. There was a lot of new technology introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show at the beginning of the year. At this point is the time when that new technology has started to come out and become available to the public. There is at last word about the Palm Pre coming out almost immediately. The New York Times said yesterday that the phone would be coming out the earliest week of June. Matthew very kindly agreed to take me out on a Monday evening … to Moyo near the Zoo in Johannesburg. OK, it was a little quiet on a Monday evening but the food was good and the guy with the guitar did not bother us too often. I had the flattened chicken and Matthew had an animal tail. I was in Johannesburg for the Betavine Social Exchange workshop. I was keen to hear what people thought about the idea and get some valuable input – I was not disappointed. I spent the morning at the Sangonet offices in downtown Johannesburg.

Right now, everyone who is planning to build electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids pretty much agrees on the fact that the best way to charge them is to plug some kind of cord into the side of the car, the same way we do for cell phones, laptops and mp3 players. Everyone, that is, except for Nissan. Nissan wants to follow the route of the electric toothbrush – that is, invent a way for us to charge EVs (or their EVs, at least), using a wireless charger. I have been watching the struggle surrounding mobile spam in the Philippines with a great deal of interest. I started watching two weeks ago, when the National Telecommunications Commission of the Philippines decided that much harsher penalties were needed for mobile spammers. This caused a crisis amongst the mobile content and VAS providers in the country, which came to a head this week.
