As time goes on, more and more of my time is being taken up reading very interesting smartphone news. WVGA, Android, WM6.5 and Cortex are the important keywords and every time a device comes up it becomes clearer that the push towards the MID market is greater from the Smartphone manufacturers than it is from the Intel-based MID and UMPC market. With Menlow in a strange UMPC-like state (with no Moblin support now) there’s a long wait until consumer-focused MIDs come out on the Moorestown platform in 2010.

According to Jakob Nielsen , in user testing, website use on mobile devices scored very low, especially in cases where users accessed regular websites not designed for mobile use. Nielsen describes the mobile user experience as “miserable” and says the phrase “mobile usability” is an oxymoron as it’s neither easy nor pleasant to use the web on mobile devices. He notes that there has been little improvement over the years, and it appears to be a worldwide problem.

Magic Wand is an application for tourists, which makes exploring a foreign city easier. It enables the user to identify a sight without a tourist guide book, but by using the mobile phone. The tourist just has to hold the mobile phone in the direction of the sight to identify it. With a keystroke, the name of the sight is shown on the display. To get this information, the position of the user is determined ¬through GPS. To detect the direction in which the mobile phone is pointing, the application uses an internal digital compass.

3 has registered a complaint against its rival mobile broadband service provider, Vodafone, over its claims of reaching speeds of 7.2 Mb across its network. Claiming that the speed was achievable only for a specific segment of the network, 3 accused its rival of failing to state the actual numbers, thus misleading customers in an unethical manner. Claiming that complexity of the technology was such that even if a provider uses 3.6 Mbps technology, the subscribers are unlikely to achieve speeds anywhere near that number, said a spokesperson for 3 mobile broadband.
07/21/2009
Mobile broadband service provider 3 has registered a complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority against rival Vodafone, claiming the latter was misleading customers on speeds in its mobile broadband network. Vodafone has been for some time acknowledged as the fastest internet service provider in the UK, claiming mobile broadband speeds available up to 7.2 Mb. 3 mobile broadband now alleges that the speed is available only in very few parts of its network.
07/21/2009
Vodafone, considered as the fastest broadband network in the UK, may come under scrutiny for its advertised claims on mobile broadband speeds. Vodafone’s advertisement claims that it can provide the highest mobile broadband speed of 7.2 Mb. 3 objects to that saying Vodafone’s actual speeds are nowhere near that number for most of its network, and has lodged a complaint to that effect with the Advertising Standards Authority.

Users Get Central Access to Messages from All Networks and Screens Mobile phone subscribers at Telstra, Australia’s leading telecommunications and information services company, now can get all their messages — voicemail, picture messaging, text messaging, email and multimedia communications — in one secure, integrated mailbox accessible from both mobile handset and desktop computer.
07/21/2009
Rival broadband service provider 3 has filed a complaint against Vodafone with the Advertising Standards Authority for ‘misleading’ customers through its advertisement, which promises to provide 7.2 Mb mobile broadband speed. It is partly because of this claim that Vodafone has risen to great heights in the highly competitive market of mobile broadband services in the UK. But 3 has put forth an argument that says that Vodafone’s services are only applicable in some parts of the country but are being presented as being much more far-reaching.
07/21/2009
A recent advertisement by Vodafone claiming to provide 7.2 Mb broadband speeds all over the UK has caused 3 to file a complaint against Vodafone with the Advertising Standards Authority. According to a spokesman for 3 mobile broadband , the technology for mobile broadband is very complex and it is highly unlikely to provide customers a speed of 7.2 Mb even if one uses a 3.6 Mbps technology. The complaint was made on the grounds that Vodafone was ‘misleading’ its customers through advertisements.

The phone looks attractive with its black chrome finish and becomes even more stunning when its smooth slider mechanism is explored. The phone offers a plethora of desirable feature in terms of usability and aesthetics. To begin with, it has an integrated 1.3 Megapixels camera, along with digital zoom.
07/21/2009
The Advertising Standards Authority, an independent regulator for advertisements, has received a complaint from 3 against Vodafone, stating that the ‘7.2 Mb Mobile broadband speed claims by Vodafone are ‘misleading’ and ‘unlikely to be achieved’. 3, a rival network of Vodafone, argues that Vodafone’s claim to supply the said speed of 7.2Mb is only partially true, and such speeds can only be achieved in two places: London and in airports.
07/21/2009
Vodafone’s high-speed broadband claims have come under the scanner after rival broadband network, 3, filed an official complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority stating the claims are misleading and practically impossible. Vodafone, which claims to provide top speeds of 7.2MB in its advertisements, is considered as the fastest UK mobile broadband network. 3 has lambasted this claim as deceptive and confusing.

SEO Boondoggle? Let’s admit it, there are a lot of SEO articles out there and majority of which are just complete nonsense, hence the term boondoggle which is actually defined as work done of little value just to look or appear busy. This blog article tackles this topic and discusses why some SEO sites are submitting themselves to be victims of such. To avoid being a boondoggle, the client must be extensively involved in the whole SEO process even if the SEO work has been outsourced to another professional company.

Malware are software applications programmed to harm or do unauthorized actions on a computer system. Common examples of malware are viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and spyware. Viruses, for example, can cause havoc on a computer’s hard drive by deleting files or directory. Spyware, on the other hand, can gather data from a user’s system without the user knowing it. This poses a serious security threat. So what can you do to prevent yourself from getting infected by malware? The real answer is proactive malware prevention and removal.

The mobile space is not only a lucrative business to get in but also provides a strategic fit to Google. Mobile industry is in many ways similar to the PC industry but in terms of evolution, it still has a long way to go. The ecosystem of mobile industry is not as open as that of the PC industry and hence Google feels that it will not be able to push its internet services as freely as it would like to on the mobile.
