Chrome. A futuristic OS A couple days ago, Google announced they will release their own operating system—Google Chrome OS, which means they are officially competing with Microsoft on every scale. No matter how useful or not Chrome OS turns out to be, Google has shaken the whole tech society. Zain now offers a monthly unlimited internet access plan for offices and homes. Called Zain Premium Plan, there is no monthly data cap on this service, similar to what CDMA networks like Starcomms offer. Finally, a GSM network steps up to the “ unlimited ” plate. Rogers Rocket mobile internet sticks are “plug and play” devices that let you browse the web from pretty much anywhere your Rogers phone would work. You don’t need to set them up for most types of Web browsing – just plug them in.Unfortunately, there’s one exception: Virtual Private Networks, or VPNs. Mobile messaging provider Miyowa today announced that its MoveMessenger IM client has been pre-loaded with Sony Ericsson. Miyowa claims the W595S handset from SE is just the first of several major handset deals that it will be announcing soon. It is also announcing the launch of the Preloaded Instant Messaging Software Client Programme. This is an initiative that exists for one purpose only: to get Miyowa IM clients embedded with every major mobile brand.

A mobile version of the BBC iPlayer tops the wish list of teenage mobile phone users in the UK, but only if the price is right, according to a new study. A third of UK teens want to catch up with BBC programmes on their phones, but don’t want to incur heavy bandwidth tariffs associated with streaming content, says new research from mobile industry analyst CSS Insight. This presents a challenge to mobile operators, the study said, which face balancing demand for these services with the amount of bandwidth they consume, especially confronting an age group who expects the content to be free.

Windows Mobile devices have long had the ability to share their internet connection with a laptop or desktop PC, with just the right software and a USB cable. The BBC reports that “A third of young people regularly access Facebook and Twitter via their mobile, a new report has found. The study, published by mobile research firm CCS Insight, found that access to social networking sites was driving the take-up of mobile internet services. I have a Samsung I780 that I used normally for accessing my forex trading application which unfortunately only supported by Windows Mobile. Using Windows Mobile somewhat having advantages compare than when I use my BlackBerry, but sometime also give me some problem, like when I want to do chatting with non-Microsoft platform, like Yahoo! and GoogleTalk, having my BlackBerry also turn-on for chatting will also give me some problem, as then I will get so busy switching from one phone to another.

Mobile operator 3 UK has opened up its mobile broadband ‘dashboard’ as advertising real-estate. The dashboard, which launches every time a user connects to the Internet via their 3 dongle, will be visible to more than 1 million mobile broadband users, and receives more than 30 million impressions every month. The network is currently looking for the initial set of advertising partners to sign up until the end of 2009. Launch brands will have the option to receive in the region of 1-3 million impressions each month.

Every month, Millennial Media puts out a SMART report on the US mobile advertising market (SMART=Scorecard for Mobile Advertising Reach and Targeting). The May report shows that the US mobile internet market continues to grow at a monthly average of 3-5%. There is also some very interesting information on the mix of campaigns (for example, Retail Promotional campaigns increased 6% from April to May), as well as an an analysis of “Cost Per Engaged User” across various types of targeting method.

Dell has confirmed it’s still on course to release its own smartphones and says it’s in talks with networks to assess what they need from such a device. Roland Garriques, speaking at an analysts conference today, said the company would “work with the top three or four” networks and “see what their needs are”. The smartphone won’t be a one-off device either, with screen sizes between four and 12 inches helping make a new range.

A new study’s been released, that shows us exactly what people in the UK use the internet on their mobile phones for, according to IntoMobile . And unlike Japan, where the networks are struggling under the load of users looking at pictures of insert-your-preferred-gender-here ’s naughty bits, us users in the UK seem to use our phones for social networking more than anything else. The study of 1000 people between the ages of 16 and 35 says that mobile internet usage is growing exponentially, and a third of that usage is people accessing Facebook and Twitter.
