Internet on your Phone I’m with O2 in the UK and I have a free bolt-on with my plan. The bolt-on I added t my plan is unlimited internet access. This means I can check twitter, email, facebook, feedburner, traffic stats et al all from my phone. This is also helped by the services I used all having a mobile version. Usually these bolt-ons cost £7.50 per month, I’m not sure what carriers in other countries offer but there are alternatives on most of the other UK networks.

News of spectrum release were already rife in the media, and now Ofcom has finally confirmed through an official declaration that mobile broadband providers are going to receive the 800 MHz band of broadcast spectrum. The government’s move towards spectrum allocation echoes its previous decision to open up smaller spectrums in 2003. But now the 800 MHz range decision has come in context of mobile broadband fast becoming the next generation necessity. Consumers want an enhanced digital experience through high-speed connectivity.

Rumours about spectrum decisions were confirmed by Ofcom a few days back when it officially declared that the 800 MHz band of broadband spectrum will be allocated to mobile broadband providers. Other European nations have already released this spectrum for the purpose, and now the UK is following suit. The media had already been buzzing with reports of spectrum allocation by Ofcom. The formal announcement has now finally come from the regulator that it is going to clear the 800 MHz band of broadcast spectrum for mobile broadband . One of my college professors reminded his I.T. students that the Internet is a new thing. He showed us a timeline and we were surprised to realize that not long ago many people did not commonly own computers. They were for governments and the military, mostly because of cost. My new iPhone 3GS handset finally arrived on Wednesday, along with one for Mrs Blair. I think it’s been a long time since I’ve had a new phone, or even a new device that has blown me away so much. The ease of use is awesome, and you have to use the phone for a few hours to appreciate how little things like being able to silence calls with one button, lock the phone with the same button, adding phone favourites easily etc make the iPhone a great mobile… and that’s before you even start adding applications or browsing the web with Safari. I really wish I’d got one sooner….

Dell on Friday said it would consider testing Google’s upcoming Chrome operating system, but didn’t commit to offering the Linux-based OS in future products. ”Dell constantly assesses new technologies as part of managing our product development process and for consideration in future products,” company spokesman David Frink said in an e-mail. I wrote a piece giving my first impressions of Nokia Maps 3.0 a few days ago. I found the app quite good, but it didn’t come with a free licence for visual and voice directions. Drive navigation, the term that Nokia uses for this, is a premium service requiring a subscription. I decided that in order to give the application a fair review I needed to try Drive Navigation out. Fortunately, Nokia Maps has a menu embedded that lets users subscribe right on the handset you are using.
