Until the news hit this past week that Google was introducing a new operating system called Chrome targeted at running on netbooks, I did not know what a netbook was. I hit Curtis Schweitzer (dot) net to see what all the hoopla was about with Chrome. Then I scurried to the Wal*Mart and Dell web sites and discovered they are small laptops with 10 inch screens designed primarily for Internet usage for those on the go. The prices range from $300 up to $600 not including discounts. Damn, once

We are currently with Sprint, but they suck so bad, I’m ready to drop them, and just pay the stupid fee for cancelling early. Are there any other cell phone companies you can hook up your laptop to while on the road to access full internet? If so, who are they, and how much do they charge for internet capabilities? (Not from the phone, but from a laptop). Thanks.

by Steve Johnston Mobile broadband coverage refers to the areas serviced by a mobile network signal. The term is often also used to describe the quality of the signal in a given area or the technologies available to a specific area (such as 2G, 3G, etc.). As you might imagine, this is vital for a mobile broadband connection – without coverage for your area, you won’t get any service, and you wouldn’t want to end up paying for a service that you can’t actually use!

There are many mobile security and antivirus tools out there for your Nokia Symbian mobile, but which one to choose among all these gibberish? Well the answer is simple yet twisted. If you browse a lot from your Nokia N95 smartphone and you cannot live without the 3G mobile internet and then again you share the same phone to manage all your mobile financial and personal transactions/information then it is quite mandatory for you to safeguard it properly.

To many of us following the 3G saga in India play out over the last three-four years, things have become quite frustrating over the past eight months. There has been a consistent push from government ministries to increase the base price for the 3G spectrum auction, and since licenses and spectrum are linked, it is likely that the auction will not be about spectrum but market entry for yet another telecom operator. That may push up prices again. But lets be very clear about two things: firstly, that 3G auction is about spectrum.

Cindy, I follow your parenting tips and think lots of us are concerned not only about quantity of screen time but obviously quality – especially now that kids can get to the web on our phones, the iPod Touch devices, etc. I am friends with a software developer team who have 7 kids among them, and they recently created a new iPhone app (works w/Touch too) that is a “safe” browser. It filters automatically the bad sites like adult content, guns, gambling, as well as stuff like YouTube, etc.

Accept for a few random tweets I had nothing much to say on the Google OS yet. But after all the buzz yesterday (Read Google Vs Microsoft, Google OS vs Windows), I see very clearly that Google announced something, people saw something else. I have read the original Google blogpost (followed up by a Faq’s today) over and over again and I see no mention of a) This being a full fleged OS b) Competing with Windows OS anytime in the near future, (rather bringing in a new approach to netbooks) So if you are still unclear about what I am speaking, Google just dropped a bomb yesterday with the announcement of the Google Chrome OS .

With a second style sheet and minor changes to a page’s HTML, many online stores can offer an excellent mobile shopping experience without creating a second web page or registering a mobile specific domain. Mobile Internet use is on the rise. And online merchants presumably want to provide customers with the best possible shopping experience. It is for these reasons that many leading ecommerce sites have begun to offer either mobile specific pages (typically a subdomain) or mobile specific styles.

The real meaning of the Google OS (sans hype) - joeldowns.com 07/08/2009 It’s always fun to see a trailblazing product get announced and then watch the press run around trying to figure out what it is, what it means, and why it’s important. The latest occasion for this kind of tomfoolery is Google’s announcement yesterday of the Chrome OS . Here’s my take on it: What it is Chrome OS is the Chrome browser plus a version of Linux that is built to run a single application: the Chrome browser.

The fight for the netbook operating system just gained a new challenger in Google with the announcement of its Chrome Operating System . Although the Chrome OS is slated for various x86 computers, its initial target is netbooks, on which Google expects to see it running by the second half of 2010. Which begs the question: What’s so special about netbooks that they need their own operating system? And which of the current or planned OS environments is best suited for these devices? Most operating system efforts in the netbook area have been misplaced from the beginning.

Your Nokia N71 normally has MMS, GPRS, streaming, and mobile Internet settings automatically configured, based upon your service provider or network operator information. You may have settings from your service providers already installed in your device, or you may receive the settings from the service providers as a special text message.
